Applications and Suitability
General DescriptionDatalogic’s new reader can operate up to 24 cm from the barcode. Datalogic achieves this with innovative optic design coupled with cutting edge LED technology. This depth of field has hitherto only been achieved with laser scanners. CCD scanners were previously reserved for contact reading. The Point & Shoot CCD Scanner copes easily with both types of scanning situations. By removing moving parts this scanner provides the additional bonus of improved reliability. After careful market analysis focused on determining operational needs for barcode acquisition applications in retail, banks, post offices and insurance companies, Datalogic found that the user typically holds a reader at a distance of between 3 cm and 18 cm from the barcode. They have defined this as the instinctive reading distance. On the basis of this information, Datalogic designed the new reader offering the best performance in this instinctive reading field. The result is a gun shaped reader that is compact, robust, easy to handle and lightweight. Its simplicity of use and ergonomics make it suitable for retail, commercial and office applications. Barcode scanning acquisition is aggressive and reliable with unique operator feedback. In additon to the beeper, the scanner uses Datalogic’s sophisticated Green Spot optical system with a concentrated illumination beam, facilitating correct alignment on the barcode and guaranteeing good reading feedback directly on the code. This is particularly useful in noisy environments. A single multi-interface model (Wedge, USB, RS232 and Wand) provides flexibility and full compatibility with the different systems by simply replacing the plug-in cables. In addition, the scanner reads Reduced Space Symbology (RSS), an emerging symbology that can be printed on smaller labels, meeting emerging market needs for a larger amount of data on a single code. Like all Datalogic barcode readers, The Point & Shoot Scanner has undergone a variety of tests to assure that it can withstand daily use in standard operating environments. The tests done in DATALOGIC's research departments and quality assurance laboratories result in a reader that is long lasting and meets all the requested quality standards in the market. Altek Instruments Ltd are Datalogic approved suppliers of this and other scanners via their BarcodeMan Web site and provide full ongoing support.
Scanners with USB interfaceUSB is often the best choice for modern PCs having a vacant USB connector and running Windows (XP, 2000, 98SE or later). A suitable driver is already built into Windows and some other operating systems. (A USB scanner acts like a USB keyboard- it uses a USB HID driver) Scanners with KeyWedge™ interfaceKeyWedge is an easy and intuitive way to connect the scanner to a regular desk top computer. No software/drivers needed, just connect in the keyboard circuit and start scanning. Works with ALL applications and ALL Operating Systems- Windows, DOS, Linux, FreeBSD, Unix etc. Normal keyboard operation is not affected. (A KeyWedge scanner acts like a regular keyboard- it emulates the keyboard in hardware)Point & Shoot Scanners and Wyse TerminalsSuitable for Wyse 60/120 and similar Wyse General Purpose Terminals. not suitable for Wyse terminals based around Windows CE We can adapt all Point & Shoot scanners listed above to work with a Wyse Terminal. We fit the extra components, and program the scanner to work with your Wyse terminal before we ship. You just connect up and start scanning. Simply add this option to the cart with your scanner and leave the rest to us.
