About this scanner

The NSR120 was a very popular and reliable barcode reader for a number of years. Unfortunately it did not comply with ROHS legislation and had to be discontinued. It contained a minute amount of lead in the solder and was deemed to have been a health risk to anyone who decided to take it apart and chew on the circuit board for a couple of months.

If you are looking to replace a NSR120 scanner in an existing installation we can provide alternative scanners configured to emulate the NSR120.

Please contact the sales office if you need more details.

The NSR120 barcode slot reader is a digital slot reader with a built in programmable decoder. An ID card or other document bearing a barcode is inserted into the slot and moved across it, such that the barcode traverses a fixed sensor and light source located in the centre of the slot.

The sensor reacts to the variable width bars and spaces passing before it and provides a decoded KeyWedge or RS232 output consisting of the ASCII data originally encoded within the barcode. The NSR120 may be programmed to append a Carriage Return to the data.

When a read occurs the red lamp on the end of the reader changes to green and a beep is sounded.

The NSR120 reads all the standard format barcodes on cards, badges or pre-printed forms. It is an ideal low cost data input device for such applications as time and attendance, access control and low risk security systems.

The Slot Reader is primarily designed for mounting with the slot in the vertical direction. However, barcodes may be passed through the slot in either direction and the unit may be horizontally mounted if preferred.

The NSR120 is generally mounted so the fixing screws and cable are behind the unit. If preferred the unit may be mounted with the cable exiting from the side if the nature of the site does not require the reader to be protected from tampering.

If greater read security is required the NSR120 is available to special order with infra red optics enabling it to read and decode obscured barcodes. This circumvents potential unauthorised duplication of barcodes by photocopying (please contact us for availablity).

For 'Intelligent' access control applications the NSR120 may be connected directly to the Altek Door Latch & Turnstile Controller.

Lifetime technical support from the UK leading barcode specialist team at Altek is included in the price.

Specification

Optical

Barcode Location on ID cards

Barcodes should be printed in black on a white ground. Other colours might be possible but should be referred to Altek for advice.

The barcode should be positioned on the card so that a line passing through the centre of the barcode lies 12.7mm (0.5 inches) from the edge of the card. The recommended height of the bars is a minimum of 10mm. There should be a minimum of 6mm of white space at either end of the barcode. If the barcode is printed on an adhesive label that is to be fixed to a card substrate then the white space must appear on the label itself - relying on the white substrate can cause difficulties.
